CN Day 1 AM Recap

Our adventure began this morning with a truly enchanting and peaceful experience at Patinage en Forêt in Lac-Des-Loups, located just 45 minutes outside of downtown Ottawa. The snow was gently falling, creating a serene, winter wonderland as we set out to enjoy this quintessential Canadian winter activity—skating through a breathtaking landscape of spruce and balsam trees. The crisp, fresh (cold?) air and the gentle snowfall added to the magic of the experience, making it an unforgettable morning on the ice. As we glided along the trails, we couldn't help but admire the natural beauty of the forest, with its snow-covered trees and the soft sound of the ice beneath our skates.

In addition to the classic skate, we were able to try out long blade skis, which fit onto ski skate boots—an exciting twist on the usual experience! A huge thanks to Fresh Air (freshairxp.com) for lending those long blades and offering a great deal to make this experience even more special. It was a challenge for the athletes to adjust their regular skate technique to accommodate the shorter blades, but they quickly embraced the change.

The athletes had plenty of options to enjoy their time: they could either fast track the 3 km trail through the forest, take a break and soak in the stunning forest views, or grab a snack at the cozy canteen. Whether skating or resting, everyone had the chance to truly connect with the beauty of the winter landscape.

Most of group decide to opt for a lunch at a well know roadside restaurant in the Region: Jean Burger. Some of them tried the iconic Poutine!
