Chelsea - Day 3 recap

The group began their cross-country skiing journey with a challenging ascent, showcasing the steep, long uphills found on trails like Hollyburn. After a morning of hard work, they stopped for lunch at Western, where they were treated to breathtaking views of the Ottawa River.

Post-lunch, the group split into two: one group ventured onto backcountry trails, testing their skills, while the other stayed on the groomed trails. The backcountry group had their fair share of excitement, with Ella setting a record for falls. Meanwhile, the groomed trail group took a break at Belvedere Champlain, enjoying one of the most famous views in Gatineau Park. By chance, the two groups reunited, allowing everyone to either continue skiing or head toward Chalet des érables.

At Keogan, both groups refueled with a warm treat: hot cider and cookies, thanks to Carolyn and Duane hauling the supplies and the parents who baked the delicious cookies. Energized, they continued their journey, excited to reach their destination.

Upon arrival at Chalet des érables, the athletes were delighted to find their backpacks already waiting for them, thanks to the helpful volunteer parents. They set up for the night, with some playing games inside, others preparing for winter camping in the “Magical Tent” (thanks to Jill for setting it up). The evening continued with a hearty meal, prepared by parents and transported to the chalet, featuring chili, chicken rice, meatballs, bread and salads. The filling meal was enjoyed by all, and everyone expressed their gratitude to the cooks.

As the sun set, an outdoor fire was lit, with Ella and Tyson eagerly helping with the flames. To make dessert even more special, the kids were told they could only have it if they came outside, leading to various fun activities. Some stayed outside for a long time, building sled jumps, while Ben hilariously asked to be buried in snow. A lively, diverse evening unfolded, complete with a nail polish station, ensuring everyone had a blast.
